The oldest (more than 100 years) and largest wildlife survey in the
world, the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) takes place each year during the
mid-December to early-January time period.
At each count location, a 15-mile diameter circle is surveyed and a
specific count by specie is obtained over one calendar day. Locally,
the circle includes the Bird Sanctuary property and much of the
adjacent Solon Springs and Gordon township area.
